I've been quite the bookworm this month. I know I read another book in addition to the ones listed here, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
A Risk Worth Taking by Robin Pilcher
Dan has been a stay at home dad since being laid off two years ago. His wife has a very prestigious and demanding job in the fashion industry of London and does not understand why Dan hasn't found another job to help support the family. He stumbles across an ad for a popular company that is for sale and decides to take off for Scotland and look into the opportunity. His do-nothing teenage son joins him and the two find more than they ever dreamed of. Very good story! Note: Robin Pilcher is the son of author Rosamund Pilcher.
Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah
I haven't read a book by Hannah in years, but she is still just as great as I remember. In this story Julia has just come through a horrible high profile trial that has ruined her career as a psychiatrist. She returns to her small hometown in Washington state to help her sister, Ellen, with a problem. Little does she know that the problem is an extraordinary little girl that emerged from the deep woods and is locked in a world of unimaginable fear and isolation. Julia knows she can help the girl, but will the press leave her alone long enough to find out who the girl is?
Shop till You Drop by Elaine Viets
The first in the Dead-End Job mystery series. Helen is a size 12 in an ultraexclusive clothing boutique that caters to the richest and skinniest of Fort Lauderdale's high society. She's hiding from her own past and trying to avoid getting involved with her customers that date mobsters and smugglers and the like. Then she discovers that the manager has been embezzling money and selling drugs along with the designer clothes. Said manager ends up murdered, and since the cops don't believe Helen's claims about the crimes, she sets off to figure out whodunit on her own.
Too Many Crooks Spoil the Broth by Tamar Myer
Magdalena Yoder owns the PennDutch Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast in Hernia, PA. When a Congressman and his wife show up for the opening weekend of deer season she doesn't think anything about it. When the rest of her weekend guests turn out to be animal rights activists deteremined to ruin the weekend she gets a bit worried. Soon she finds that she has bigger things to worry about - like the corpse on her stairs, her cook quitting, getting shot at in the woods, and a second corpse. And, of course, having to deal with Melvin Stolzfuss as acting police chief is enough to drive even Magdalena crazy.
Rewriting Monday by Jodi Thomas
The latest novel by Thomas. This one is an independent story, but does mention some references to her last novel, Twisted Creek. Reporter Pepper Malone moved to Bailey, Texas, after a news story nearly got her killed. Now she wants to be left alone to do her job in relative peace and quiet. But when the newspaper’s staff is targeted by a madman with a grudge against the media, Pepper is drawn back into the public eye—and into the arms of the paper’s handsome owner.
