I did it!

I finished reading a book! And it only took three weeks! I finally finished reading a book that I could have read in two days before my injury. It's a great book - Over my Head: A Doctor's Own Story of Head Injury from the Inside Looking Out by Claudia L. Osborn. My injury is much, much less severe than hers, but I did recognize several of the same things I'm dealing with. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a head injury or has a loved one who has suffered a head injury. I shared some passages with Ed, and he said it really helped him to understand what is going in my head.

Head injuries are very personal things. No one is ever the same after a head injury - the brain changes in some way with each injury. I know I still have trouble finding the right word for things at times (more than most people) and I suspect that it is a residual affect of my last head injury (January 2000). I wonder what the lasting affects of this injury will be. I hope it's something small and easy to deal with, like the last one.

I hope to regain my planning and organizational skills soon. I know I used to be really good at that kind of stuff. Ed told me the other day he wants me to plan a trip to the coast for the late summer/early fall. Um, yeah, right. Remind me in July! Maybe I'll at least know where to start by then!

I have taken up list making again. I don't always remember what the items on the list mean, but at least I'm making a list! :) And I've discovered that two step processes are still beyond my reach. If I have to do "A" in order to do "B", forget it! "A" might happen, but "B" is a lost cause! I might remember later that I was suppose to do "B" after "A", but all interest and enthusiasm has gone by that point in time. Usually it's just forgotten for a few days.....

Boy, I've rambled more than I intended. Sorry! I really just wanted to share my excitement at finishing a book! Reading is getting easier, and I hope I'm not just imagining that I'm reading faster. I must master this before I can go back to school, so I'm going to read as much as I can! I need to go write "Find a new book to read" to my list!
