October Reads

I've done a lot of reading lately! Here's what I managed to devour this month....

Susannah's Garden by Debbie Macomber Susannah returns home for the summer to care for her ailing mother and to deal with the lost love of her youth. What she comes to find out are truths about her family and herself that she never imagined, strengthening her relationships with old friends and her husband along the way. Classic Macomber!

Evans Above by Rhys Bowen - First in the Constable Evans Mystery series. Evan Evans is the constable in idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh mountain village. He helps solve the murders of several mountain climbers while trying to avoid the bawdy barmaid. Another enjoyable light mystery.

A Wedding to Die For by Leann Sweeney - the second in the Yellow Rose mystery series, set in Houston and Galveston. Abby is a new private investigator hired to find a bride's birthmother, and solve the murder of the bride's wedding guest as well. Light, humorous and enjoyable!

Sweet Water by Anna Jeffrey The tale of Agua Dulce, a tiny west Texas town with a population of 10, sold to a Fort Worth millionaire on eBay. The millionaire and the cafe owner's daughter enter a battle of wills and, of course, end up falling in love. Predictable, but an enjoyable romance nonetheless.

The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber I wasn't sure about this one when I started it, but it turned out to be okay. Four very diverse women come together in Lydia's yarn shop on Blossom Street. There's Jacqueline - the rich and snooty society woman, Claudia - desperate to have a baby, Alix - taking the class to fulfill community service hours, and Lydia - owner of the shop and cancer survivor. How the ladies become friends turns out to be interesting, especially Jacquie and Alix.

Summer by the Sea by Susan Wiggs Great book! I just finished reading this one. Set in Winslow, Rhode Island, it is the story of a local and Alex, a boy whose family only comes for the summer. It takes the reader through their summers as children, young love as teenagers, and the tumultuous reunion as adults.
