Some more pics....

It's a gloomy, gray day here, but no rain in the forecast. :(

I was looking through some more pics from our time in Germany and found a couple more to share.

This is the world's largest cuckoo clock, located in Wiesbaden, Germany. Yes, it is an actual, "real-live", little bird pops out on the hour cuckoo clock. Very neat to watch. If you go in the door to the right of the clock, you enter a clock shop. We had a nice cuckoo clock that we bought in Bavaria. It hung in our house for many, many years, but I think Mom finally sold it in a yard sale or gave it away or something. They are fun for awhile, but honestly, that little bird will drive you crazy after awhile! :)

History. Germany is crawling with it! This is a Roman ruin in one of the parks in Wiesbaden. It has always amazed me that things built thousands of years ago are still standing in Europe. Columns, statues, and other artifacts that were ordered built or created by great Roman powers still exist. That's mind boggling, really. We don't have that kind of history here in the US. Europe is just covered with stuff like this - castles lining the banks of the Rhine River, cathedrals in the larger cities, small chapels scattered across the countryside. It's just amazing.

I would love to go back to Europe someday. Not so much to see the places I used to live and play, but to study more of the history. To see more places. Rome. Venice. London. Paris (yes, I've been there, but I was only 13). Berlin. Madrid. Athens. I want to explore the countryside of Italy, see the mountains in Switzerland, see the Mediterranean Sea from the coast of Spain, explore the Greek Isles, see the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark. I think I'll need another life time to do all the traveling I want to do, because when I'm done in Europe, I'm headed south to Africa! But first I need to win the lottery......

Oh man I miss Germany!! My parents have a cuckoo clock and we make them turn off the music and bird when we stay with them, LOL. I love Europe. There is so much history over there and they have preserved it so well.

I just popped over from Mabel's House and am taken with your pix of Germany. We are going there next May to visit relatives and to tour. I expect to be dazzled by the historic buildings. I'm glad I found your blog.
