A Glimpse into the Future

Bryan joined JROTC when he enrolled in school here in December. He has talked about joining the military since he was about 9. Back then he wanted to fly, so the Air Force was his dream. These days he's talking about enlisting in the Army when he graduates. Either way is fine with us. He's not ready for college at this point in his life, and isn't sure what he wants to do with his life. Ed and I think that joining the military is the best bet for him right now - regardless of what branch!

Today was Bryan's first day to wear his uniform to school, and it was a stark reminder that he's growing up. In only about 18 months he'll wear the real deal. It looks awfully bare compared to Ed's Class A's and my dad's Class A's, but he's just starting out. I'm sure he'll have ribbons and rank before the end of the school year. He was super, super excited to wear it today, and even did the "Kramer slide" (from Seinfeld) into the kitchen this morning. Just about scared me to death - I hadn't had my coffee yet and wasn't exactly awake! LOL!

I hope he maintains this level of enthusiasm throughout his JROTC and military career. Of course when I picked him up today he told me "That cute girl that sits behind me in Health? She told me I look GOOOOOOOD!" Boys! Smiley from millan.net

First pic - last minute adjustments (Notice the cell phone in B's hand. I think it's permanently attached!)

Bryan and Ed...

Bryan (he looks so grown up! *sniff*)

He's grown just a bit since this pic was taken....

That's the Alamo, summer of 1998. Bryan was such a cute little guy - he had the typical "but the sun's in my eyes" expression of every 6 year old in San Antonio that day!
